I was invited to Los Angeles, California, for NYLA Live's production of Anton Rechard's video debut of his single "Red." NYLA live holds events once a month & a portion of their proceeds at each event is donated to a charity of their choice that supports the arts.
The event was located at The Medusa Lounge -- a hip, fresh, and down to to
earth location. The venue was spacious but at the same time had a cozy
and intimate feel. My production team and I arrived around 9pm and the
crowd had already poured in. Security & venue owners were extremely
polite, so shout out to them!
Once the event began, the drinks were flowing, the
DJ drawing the crowd in with classic 90's throwbacks & current hits.
people were indulging in cocktails, canoodling, all feeling the great vibes.
Notables, such as Naturi Naughton, Nelsan Ellis, Jamaal Buster, Director James
Bland, etc. were in the building, intermingling with everyone else, mostly models actors or dancers in the L.A. entertainment industry.

The lights dimmed, and you heard Anton's smooth
voice begin a cover of Usher's "Good Kisser." A live band began to
accompany him, and eventually he appeared, gyrating along the dance
floor, crooning the words filled with nothing but uber confidence. He
then instructed his live band to stop, and performed the remains of the
song acapella, dancing around the room, from girl to girl until he
reached, Chandrika, his wife, who was also in the performance, telling
the ultimate love story that the song implies -- shes the one!
Entertaining is an understatement, as the crowd roared, including
myself! Shortly after that, his video debut began over a large projection screen. The crowd watched intently. D'Nero Group's production is listed below:
The Song: I am still quite the Aaliyah fan, and her era with Missy &
Timbaland is one of the genres that is still played on my music
playlist. I love smooth sounds over intricate beats, similar to Sade
& Marvin Gaye. Anton's song "Red" definitely evokes the same feelings
-- those of a crisp voice over major production.
The Video: The video was directed by Nelsan Ellis
and James Bland. In the age of You Tube fame and what i like to call
"microwave success", this generation doesn't get a real sense of what it
means to see an authentic video that time, effort, and creative energy
were put into . Anton's video was so professionally executed, I'm surprised
its not yet in MTV's or VH1's video rotation daily. It was sensual and
sexy, but at the same time very classy.
My Review: Anton was the opening act last year
at one of my events in New York City for R& B artist Tweet. Although he had a great singing voice, I could tell he was either
intimidated by the large crowd or the surreal experience of opening up
for an artist of her caliber. This didn't affect his performance, because the crowd
was still in love! I mention it because being in the industry, I could tell he was still wet behind the ears when
it came to performing, and I had a few critiques.
That being said, not only this sensually confident performance, but the
incredibly produced video was not just another event, but quite the
incredible experience. I was sincerely proud to see the growth, and could tell he is definitely ready for the big leagues! Anton Rechard, is definitely sure to go as far as
he wants in his career, not only because of talent, but more
importantly his humility, which most modern day artists lack.
You can
tell Anton is hungry to be in the industry, but not thirsty -- still maintaining
his integrity & only putting out a carefully constructed product.
Also, to brand himself among NYLA Live's incredible event production
team is a sharp move. Bravo Anton! Bravo!
